or
6:00pm – 7:00pm
Room 31C

This focus group consists of a guided open discussion of how research ethics professionals perceive and respond to research utilizing big data in social and computer science. Hosted by the PERVADE team—an NSF-funded study of data science research ethics from the perspective of many stakeholders—this focus group will collaboratively discuss whether and how the Common Rule should apply to case studies developed through PERVADE’s empirical research. Participants will be asked to consent to use of non-identified field notes and audio recording for research. The research has been approved by the University of Maryland IRB, [1062647-4]

For the afternoon session, please bring your conference boxed lunch, which can be obtained in Exhibit Hall FG. Light refreshments will be provided for the evening session.
